Gray
Building Update
August 30, 2004
Annie Gould
September
1st, 2004 was not only the first day of school but also the first
day of business for the Gray Building. Wednesday was moving day
for the four tenants who are renting the first floor classrooms:
A Step Above Dance Studio, Headstart, The Northfield Boys &
Girls Club and White Pines Middle School program. The building
smells of new wood and fresh paint with each of the first floor
classrooms painted a soft yellow with restored slate or painted
blackboards. The classroom floors have been stained a dark mahogany
to match the wainscoting and chalk trays. The new maple flooring
in the hallway shows off the sage green walls and the new oak
double staircases.
The Coalition
has now finished Phase I of the restoration project. We have stabilized
the building, restored the first floor and returned the building
to community use. Phase II will complete the renovation by restoring
the second floor, painting the exterior and finishing the landscaping.
The Coalition has successfully raised over $900,000 towards a
goal of $1.3 million. We will continue to fundraise and plan to
finish Phase II by September 2005. Please join us for an Open
House on Sunday, Sept 26th, 1:30 to celebrate the completion of
Phase I. We hope to see you there.
