What is
going on at the Gray Building?
By Anne Gould
On Saturday,
May15th, the old school bell at the Gray Building will ring at
noon. We are celebrating the start of the renovations with an
Open House and "Hard Hat" Tour from 11am to 2 pm. Senator
Leahy will be joining us at noon. Food and decorations will be
provided by the Northfield Boys & Girls Club and the Denny
Family. Parking for the event will be at the Northfield Square
Market.
The new driveway
and parking lot is now taking shape. The concrete footings for
the new front entrance were poured last week. The window glaziers
have set up shop in one of the classrooms and are busy glazing,
repairing and re-hanging all the large double-hung windows. The
windows that were removed to create emergency doors will be restored.
Scaffolding is being erected on the east side of the building
so that work can begin on the cupola.
Inside, the
work has begun to rebuild the double staircase to its original
likeness. An elevator shaft has been installed in one of the old
cloakrooms. Meanwhile, the internal systems are being upgraded.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday, May 15th.
